Is there Floating Tone in Taiwan Southern Min?

This paper investigates special tone sandhi in Taiwan Southern Min (TSM), arguing that special tone sandhi in trisyllabic adjective reduplication in TSM is due to pragmatic factor rather than phonological factor, floating tone for example. It is proposed that a floating high tone appears between the first and second syllable of the trisyllabic adjective reduplication and it leads to the special tone sandhi. Two potential problems are identified, a) whether a floating tone is edge-sensitive and b) why there is no high level in special tone sandhi. Pragmatic factor by focusing on the first syllable accounts better than phonological factor.
